when it's time for bed she hits the watershed and when the morning comes that girl won't lift her head she's certainly not classically trained to behave the way humans want sure she's mean but she's ready to love well she won't start her day until her bowtie's on and then she'll laugh and play with mr. squiggles von excellent to see what she can do to fill the day in the most simple honest and meaningful ways a dog can bring joy beyond joy on earth or the stars above sure she's mean but she's ready to love ready to love

when i finished school my father took me on a trip we rented a car and drove from las vegas to the northern rim out from the bubble i knew the farthest west i had been what would i grow to do what would become of the boy i had been up until then the canyon gaped wide and beckoned us both to descend long dinners at night regaling of faces and places you'd been far from the casino lights perched on a precipice high above what the river carved through the centuries down in the gourge before you and me

some say that when your parents pass away it's a finite end of childhood on that immortal day he was surrounded by the people he loved most faded out in perfect harmony and soft gave up the ghost mother strong in troubled times she rocks our soul and brings us peace of mind

shepherds sleep under sky virgins weep bye and bye in place of song wise men try til the day that they die to explain what they cannot what man is this who has replaced the child with tongues of flame and eyes burning wild, burning wild wouldn't it be nice if life was on our side but things change and time passes by, passes by, passes by things unfold in the most unpredictable ways it's hard to say long lost friends disappear and come again tidings of comfort to send what man is this who has replaced the child with tongues of flame and eyes burning wild, burning wild wouldn't it be nice if life was on our side but things change and time passes by, passes by, passes by love love love love love love love love love love love love

about

this is the sixth installment of A Davis Family Christmas. as always i am blown away by my friends' talent and willingness to contribute their time, energy, voices, gear, and love to make this thing come to fruition year after year. 2015 features some new voices and some old friends. notably this year marks the first time an inner member of the davis clan (other than myself) appears as a musical contributor with the vocal debut of my younger sister lilya davis.

all proceeds go to Upbeat NYC (www.upbeatnyc.org) - an el sistema, after-school orchestra program serving at risk communities in the south bronx.

this album is dedicated in loving memory to my grandma mary harper and my grandpa tom knebel both of whom passed away this year.

special thanks to adam schatz, jacob blumberg, vishal nayak, renata zeiguer, the jenkins family, jason burger, isaac gillespie, kris nolte, and katie vogel
